Greenbrier Panoramas

Greenbrier Panoramas

Smoky Mountains photos Autumn Panorama

These two Smoky Mountains photos were created as special editions for this fall. The photos were both taken in the Greenbrier area of the Smokies.  Both are processed with more extreme contrast and color saturation than I normally do.  This effect is something I do as a change of pace for occasional pictures. These two are both 12×24″ panoramas and are one-of-a-kinds hanging in my Gatlinburg Gallery.

The Greenbrier area of the Smokies is a wonderful place to wander in during the autumn leaf season, or any time.  The crowds are much less here, and the two main trails offer everything from fabulous spring wildflowers to the best Smoky Mountains waterfall. The picture above was taken from the footbridge at the Ramsay Cascades trailhead after a heavy rain. This location is featured in my photo, Winter Footbridge.

The picture below is a typical scene in the Greenbrier with peak autumn color. The gravel road is an invitation to slow down and soak in the moment. This part of the Smokies is also rich in pioneer history, which offers another context to ramble along some autumn trails.

Last month I wrote a blog post about converting some of my Smoky Mountains photos to black and white. I’ve been having fun with this technique lately, and will be showing more of these photos in the future. I liked the look so much that I’ve created three panoramas featuring scenes from Cades Cove. These are one-of-a-kind images measuring 12″ x 24 ” and framed in rustic barnwood. They can be seen at my Gatlinburg Gallery on Glades Rd. or ordered by phone.

I’ve also created several small 5×7″ photos, framed in barnwood.

All of my Smoky Mountains photos are on display, mostly in stunning color. The gallery also features mugs, magnets and notecards and is open every day but Sunday 10-5.

And if you are a facebook person, please consider becoming a fan of the William Britten Photography page on facebook. I post news updates and photos from the Smokies, plus occasional special offers only on facebook.

We’ve added several new products here in the William Britten Gallery to showcase our Smoky Mtns photos.  This has been a goal for a couple of years now and we are very excited to finally be introducing these items.

In the picture above are notecards and magnets. The notecards are hand-printed right here in the Gallery on acid-free, heavy-weight card stock. The cards are a large 5×7 size and feature many of my most popular Smoky Mtns photos as well as wildflowers and some other scenes.  The magnets, shown in the rotating display to the right above, are also a large 4×6 size featuring 10 of my most popular photos.

Shown below is our display of fine art mugs!  We’ve picked 7 popular images for the mugs, and they come packaged in a handsome gift box.

If you’re traveling to the Smoky Mtns, please stop in at the William Britten Gallery on the historic Arts and Crafts Trail along Glades Rd. in Gatlinburg, TN. You can check out these new magnets, mugs and notecards, as well as the complete display of Smoky Mtns photos in frames and prints.

Photographs like you’ve never seen before!  That’s quite a claim. Many visitors to my Gatlinburg Gallery near the Smoky Mountains, or who come into my booth at an art fair, exclaim something like “Oh my gosh!  These look three-dimensional!  They jump off the page.  It’s like being right there!”

I create images that are meant to capture feelings and emotions. What does sunrise in Cades Cove feel like? What emotions do the colors and smells of autumn leaves create for you?  Once I have such an image, I use a very unique process to create an heirloom memory for your home. Here’s what I do:

Each image is printed in my studio using the latest archival inks on premium photographic paper. The colors are rated to last over 75 years without fading. Once the inks are dry, I coat the surface of the print with an art-grade laminate. I have a machine that does this, and applying the coating is a craft in itself! This surface coating protects the photo. It also pops out the colors. The coating gives the image a greater sense of depth. This is part of what creates the dimensional effect that so many people comment on.

Finally, the coated photo is mounted on a sturdy board which can be framed without glass. The result is a no-glare, bold and clear artwork that has amazing dimensional qualities that add to the sense of “being there.”

The photos on this page are three of my most popular images. At the top of the page is Cades Cove Morning, which depicts a glorious start to the day in one of the most popular locations in the Smoky Mountains. Above is Smoky Mountains Moonrise, which captures a stunning late-fall evening with snow already fallen on the higher elevations. And below is my signature piece, the Leaf Set, depicting birch, maple, sweet gum, and sourwood leaves fallen to the ground. This set of four images is mounted on thick boards to be hung without frames.

Please come on out to the Arts and Crafts Trail on Glades Road in Gatlinburg and stop in for a visit at the William Britten Gallery. My complete display of Smoky Mountains photos, including all of my Featured Photos, will tempt you with a special memory to take home.

The Large Leaf Set returned this week to the William Britten Gallery in Gatlinburg. Each of the 4 leaves are printed, mounted on a 3/4″ thick board, and given a coating on the surface that protects and enhances the images. The individual boards measure 16×24″ and the entire set is over 3 feet by 4 feet. It makes a very bold statement on a wall!

This set is very labor-intensive to create, so I only make 4-6 sets each year. The set is also available in a size that measures 12×18″ for each leaf, or 2 feet by 3 feet for the set.

Please stop in and visit me to see the complete display of Smoky Mountain Photography at the William Britten Gallery on Glades Road in Gatlinburg, TN.
