In 1839 a group split from the Primitive Baptist Church to form their own congregation. The structure pictured above was built in 1915.

I visited the church on a bright winter day in February when there were almost no cars on the Cades Cove loop road.

As with many of the historic building in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Missionary Baptist Church has attracted its share of visitors who seem unable to resist marking their visit in some way.

Thank You for the beautiful pictures! I visited the Cove a few yrs. back. My GGG Grandfather William Lewis Brannon & GGG Grandmother Levina Hill Brannon came here w/ her father Green Hill along w/ Russell & Susan Hill Gregory. GGGG Grandpa Green Hill was a Clerk in the church, it was a step back in time!! I love your pics of the Cove!!

I love Cade Cove going to take my kids they don’t know just how good they have it now. I would love to know more about how they lived back then.

Hi there! I just found this page, and according to my husband’s family tree, his GGG Grandparents were Williams Lewis Brannon & Levina Hill. His GG Grandfather is there son Horace Brannon. We have seen multiple accounts that his GG Grandmother is Mattie Brannon, formerly Whitehead, of the Whitehead homestead in Cades Cove. I know it’s been a few years since this post, but do you know if Horace Brannon married Mattie Whitehead, or is it just a miscommunication in the family tree? Either way, these photos are beautiful, and it’s exciting to see a possible relative commenting on these photos, too!

Sorry, I have no information on that.
