This picture holds a special place in my heart. In 2002 I began to think about Smoky Mountain photography as a serious endeavor, and Twin Boulders was one of the very first images that I printed in a large size. I was very proud of it — the flowing water was captured just right, and the clarity and detail was astounding. This image could be enlarged to 3 feet by 4 feet without loosing its punch. Although the subject matter is fairly average, the “wow factor” of a large print of Twin Boulders convinced me that I could take my photography to another level.

The scene is along the Middle Prong of the Little River, in the Tremont section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I spent a lot of time up in Tremont since it was the closest entrance to the Smokies from my home in Knoxville at the time. Honestly, I didn’t imagine at the time that the path would lead to a life in Gatlinburg, and the William Britten Gallery in the Arts and Crafts area on Glades Rd.
